As part of an overall home remodel in Lake Quivira, Laura Suhr, owner of Suhr Interior Design, took a formerly dark and outdated master bathroom and with a magic-like touch, transformed it into a beautifully bright and airy space. So many exquisite and thoughtful details went into this design, which now beckons its owner with it serene and spa-like ambiance, with a touch of glamour to reflect the homeowner’s tastes, giving the bathroom yet another layer of uniqueness and flair.

“The teak bench and the table ground the room, while also adding depth and that natural element that I like to work into my designs,” noted Suhr.

Taking its former layout with a shower that was portioned off in a separate room, Suhr embraced the challenge to completely transform this area.

“We moved the shower over by the window and eliminated the walls by the vanity area, taking advantage of the full footprint and creating an open and airy feel,” she said. “We also incorporated a dressing area by the shower with a teak bench and custom linen cabinet for extra storage.”

One of the hallmarks of this space is the tile mosaic wall with its sea glass color, which stands in harmony to the predominant aqua color in the room. The 12” x 24” porcelain tile flooring serves as a neutral backdrop, while the quartz counter top on the updated vanity adds a strong element of balance. Updated lighting features improved the brightness of the room, as well.

After removing the former jetted tub, an air bath soaker tub – a modern version of a jetted tub – was installed and centered in the space. The chandelier above provides a subtle glamorous accent. The coffered ceiling completes the look.

“The client liked blues, grays and whites, along with a bit of sparkle, all of which we used throughout the redesign of the entire home and we then kept that in mind when designing this bathroom,” said Suhr. “The bathroom has a much better flow to it now.”

The end result? A truly customized retreat that offers an atmosphere of personal indulgence.
