Owner Jen Macias-Wetzel’s personal experience with Inspired Closets inspired her to purchase the Kansas City franchise in 2024.
“We transformed the primary closet in our own home. Even though the house was fairly new, the closet had been treated as an afterthought,” she explained. “Once the project was complete, I saw firsthand how a thoughtfully designed space could change not only the appearance of a room, but also the way you begin and end each day. I fell in love with the product, the process and the people behind it so it became my next chapter.”
She began her career at a young age in sales, marketing and business development, primarily architecture, commercial real estate and multifamily industries. She learned to listen closely, understand what clients need and build lasting relationships.
“I later returned to school after nearly three decades to pursue my degree in business administration and marketing, completing it last year, a very meaningful personal goal,” she smiled.
With custom installation, she sees a lot of interest in clean, modern walk-in closets and boutique-style primary closets, but some of the most dramatic transformations happen in smaller reach-in closets. A well-planned reach-in can often provide far more usable storage without changing the size of the room.
“Most clients want a closet that feels timeless, tailored and consistent with the rest of their home. Popular features include double-hanging sections, adjustable shelving, dedicated shoe storage, drawers, built-in hampers, jewelry storage, valet rods and lighting. People also love islands, vanities and seating. The final design depends on what the client owns, how they get ready and what will make their daily routine easier,” she noted.
Her team follows a simple four-step process: consult, design, prepare and install. They begin with an in-home consultation where the designer takes detailed measurements and inventories the client’s belongings.
Next, the designer creates a personalized plan and a 3D rendering, and they review the layout, materials, colors, finishes, hardware, accessories and budget with the client.
“Once the design is approved, we help prepare the space for installation. That can include providing garment racks, removing the existing system and preparing the walls,” she continued. “Our professional installation team completes the transformation and leaves the home clean and ready to enjoy. An organized space reduces the small points of friction that can add stress to your day. There is also an emotional benefit. A calm, functional closet, pantry, entryway or garage can help you feel more prepared and in control. It can make mornings less rushed, simplify family routines and allow everyone in the household to know where things belong. You are much more likely to stay organized when the space gives everything a home.”
She encourages people to visit their showroom. Photographs are helpful, but being able to touch the materials, operate the drawers, see the lighting and explore the accessories makes the possibilities feel much more real.
