This enviable kitchen has style written all over it. When the homeowners decided to give their old kitchen a complete transformation, they turned to Lisa Otterness, CKD, of Classic Kitchens Design Studio, to help them achieve their goal

“This was an amazing couple to work with,” indicated Otterness. “They are an adventurous pair who were seeking to bring a level of sophistication to their kitchen while adding a layer of warmth to the space.”

In order to achieve the client’s wishes, Otterness understood the need for clean lines and no fussiness. Instead, she deferred to a palate of beautiful and timeless elegance bringing forth an Old World finish. This space may function as a kitchen, but it evokes a feeling of comfortable and relaxing living area.

Opening to the adjacent living room, the kitchen offers a full menu of exciting elements. A gorgeous back-lit, glass-paneled china hutch – perfect for displaying fine china and glassware is flanked by a full pullout pantry on one side and a nine-inch deep canned goods pantry on the other side. The existing maple cabinets went from their former partial overlays to full overlays with soft close drawers. Their rich color comes from a dark lager stain that has the feel of walnut.

The center island is home to the microwave oven and a dishwasher, cleverly hidden by a cabinet façade with drawer handles. In fact, all of the linear pulls throughout the kitchen capture the clean lines style necessary to pull off its statement luxurious style. To add to the grandeur of the space, Otterness took the cabinets all the way to the ceiling and also installed a built-in refrigerator with front panels, creating a seamless transition between all of the cabinetry.

One of the impressive highlights of the kitchen is the out-of-the-box all-glass backsplash, which the client selected on her own initiative.

“It is a play on sheens, with gloss and matte pieces interspersed,” referenced Otterness.

To add to the charm, some of the cabinets have backlit display areas on top, all of which gracefully add ambient lighting at night.

“All of those lights are dimmable,” said Otterness.

Other inspired design elements include new appliances, gorgeous pendant lighting above the island, quartz Torquay countertops, and a raised oven cabinet area, perfect for ease of bending over as one ages while also providing a higher countertop level for taller people.

Without a doubt, this fully remodeled kitchen will surely stand the test of time.
