Johnson County Young Matrons is an all-volunteer women’s service organization founded in 1961. Philanthropy has been the hallmark of JCYM since its beginning, best illustrated when they donated the money they had been saving for a clubhouse to meet an urgent need for emergency shelter for children. JCYM members purchased and prepared the home and Temporary Lodging for Children (now KidsTLC) was born.
Currently 268 members provide support to area philanthropic organizations through financial donations, over 60 service projects annually and educational scholarships. Each year the women seek fund-raising opportunities to continue to support local philanthropies. In its 55-year history, JCYM has donated over $3,000,000 in financial contributions and scholarships and volunteered 600,000 hours.
JCYM is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. There is no paid staff or office space which allows the club to donate 100% of the proceeds from its fund-raising projects to other organizations.
For the last 25 years the “Home for the Holidays” Homes Tour and Boutique earnings have been central to the financial well-being of local philanthropies. Every member of the organization supports this signature event by participating in some capacity to ensure its success.
This year’s “Home for the Holidays” Silver Anniversary celebration will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 9:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. For the first time the Tour will include six homes beautifully decorated for the holidays, each one unique and full of personality. Talented decorators and tablescape designers will provide inspiration for your own holiday celebrations. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of the Tour. The Ritz Charles will be the venue for the Holiday Boutique held on Monday, November 14, 11:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, November 15, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. There is no admission fee and the Boutique will feature many new vendors as well as familiar ones. A special event, the Boutique Bash, will be held at the same location on Monday, November 14, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include a SWAG bag, two drink tickets, multiple prize drawings, entertainment and fashion trends.
JCYM is grateful to our homeowners, decorators, tablescape designers and volunteers for making “Home for the Holidays” possible. A very special thank you also goes to our sponsors for their underwriting dollars and the Tour and Boutique patrons for their attendance and support. This year’s recipients are Evergreen Living Innovations, Friends of Shawnee Indian Mission, Growing Futures Early Education Center, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, KidsTLC, SAFEHOME and philanthropy- related scholarships.

Designer: Craig Sole, Craig Sole Designs
Craig describes this contemporary Wolfgang Trost designed home as a museum. It abounds in art work and sculpture at every turn. His approach to decorating it for the holidays? – “Keep it simple and make a focal point!” For Craig, the perfect placement of an object says as much as the object itself. As an example, the location for a vessel may need to be low enough to see down into it to appreciate and enjoy the design fully. One word of advice from Craig is that you purchase things you love! Styles change but you will always enjoy your surroundings if you follow your instincts.
Tablescape Designer: Jeremy Upchurch, Z Gallerie
At Z Gallerie, we are mixing up a lot of style for the 2016 season. Bringing in the new and the old, while intertwining gold and silver, creates something truly awe inspiring. Our new dish line includes a matte finish mixed with a speckled metallic glaze, adding an industrious shine to your next dinner party. Our New Year’s Eve themed tablescape brings it all together while adding glitz and glam. Beautiful layering adds elegance to a New Year’s Eve celebration.
TUSCANY RESERVE: 3406 W. 138th Street, Leawood, Kansas
The beauty and color of the asymmetrical landscape design, added to the warmth of the iron gate, lanterns and front door, instantly draw you into this lovely Leawood home. Columns, archways and pitched ceilings allow for the vast openness of the large living space of the main level. Dove gray tones in the dining and living rooms are accented with soft goods in shades of blue and green and furniture with mixed finishes of stone, wood and mirror, all resulting in comfortable conversation spaces. Gorgeous light fixtures throughout the home direct your eyes up to the interestingly enhanced ceilings of different colors and textures. A walk through bar is centrally located and accessible to the living room, dining room, kitchen and casual eating space, allowing for easy entertaining. The trompe l’oeil design of the wallpaper in the bar gives the walls and arches the effect of aged stone. Each of these beautiful living spaces is defined by sculpted area rugs on the rough-hewn wooden floors.
In the kitchen, the rich flowing colors of the granite countertops are repeated in the contrasting light and dark finishes of the cabinetry and island. The apron-front sink and beautiful wood paneled refrigerator doors give this workspace a well-designed, custom look. The cozy hearth room is wrapped in windows and anchored with a stacked stone fireplace.
Also on the main level is the gorgeous master bedroom suite. Mixed textures of tone-on-tone bedding give this room an elegant yet comfortable ambiance. An interlocking geometric design crowns the ceiling, giving yet another example of the designer’s attention to detail. In the master bath a footed tub, crystal lighting, artistic mirrors, along with marble and tile detailing in the shower, make this an attractive, functional space.
The stairway leading to the patio and lower level is overlooked by a curved balcony at the top and panels of beveled mirrors on the wall. The peaceful garden patio is a tranquil retreat encompassed by privacy plantings, a stone fountain, fireplace and areas for seating and dining. The expansive lower level boasts a combination kitchen/bar, family room with a fireplace and three bedrooms with full baths. Windows fill each one of these rooms with natural light. What a wonderful haven for visiting guests!
This is a beautifully designed and decorated home. The owners have successfully achieved their goal to “right-size” for comfortable and graceful living.

The spacious living room with a bow window frames the golf course. Antique mirrored bookcases flank the modern linear fireplace and inset television.
The stairway leads to the upper level, a young adult’s dream space. Beautiful design concepts begin with hardwood flooring in a herringbone design. The area opens into a sports game room with shuffleboard, juke box and large screen television, ample seating, full bar and fireplace. Entertainment continues on the deck to the outdoor living space. The college son’s bedroom and bath with towering ceilings is located across the hall. The college daughter enjoys a getaway bedroom up a few steps on the other side. Her beautifully appointed room also opens to the entertainment deck. Both bedrooms include walk-in showers and easy access to a laundry room on the upper level.

The exterior use of wavy lap cedar siding and stamped natural flagstone sets the stage for the rustic elegance that defines this impressive home. As you enter, there is an ethereal quality to the floating staircase and the delicately suspended twenty-two foot cascading light fixture in the grand foyer.
The floor of the study is a warm blend of multi-species wood that reflects the glow of the contemporary lighting. The openness of the floor plan allows for a spacious view of the dramatic great room and lanai, each one enhanced with natural rock fireplaces. The main level master suite is accessed through a private faux-finished hallway with French doors. The serene bedroom has textured neutral tones, a starburst inspired light fixture and large windows. A separate door gives passage to the lanai. The master bath highlights a spa tub, glass shower, double vanities and make-up table.
