Shelby Puetz, ASID Allied, NKBA at Well Appointed Kitchens, Baths and Designs, understands how to listen. She seeks out her clients’ interior aspirations through personal interaction and by spending time in their space to understand how best to refine it.

Homeowners John and Julia Bracken were ready for a revamp of their large bathroom, and Shelby was able to guide them to an exceptional realization of their vision.

“Shelby was so wonderful to work with. Going into the project, we knew the overall style we were looking for, but I was having difficulty making selections,” Julie noted. “Shelby listened to our ideas and budget and then helped us to put together a cohesive plan to make our vision a reality. I really appreciated her advice on budget – where to splurge and where to save to make sure we had quality fixtures that would stand the test of time. We wanted to lighten up the bathroom to give it a serene, spa-like feel. I wanted it to feel organic and modern at the same time. I love the tile selection and the white oak cabinets; the color palate is muted, but the textures are so beautiful. Zen! It is such a beautiful and tranquil space.”

Knowing that her clients are nothing less than ecstatic over the rediscovery of their new, beautiful space, is the kind of inspiration that fuels Shelby’s devotion to her craft.

“I met the Brackens through a contractor I have collaborated with, and they were kind enough to recommend Well Appointed and our services. When I met John and Julia, they had lived in the home for ten years and had gradually made it their own. They wanted to make their primary bathroom modern and clean, and simplify the lines and aesthetics,” Shelby said, outlining the project.

Shelby and her team custom-designed the cabinetry and also remodeled the couple’s walk-in shower. The shower now features pebbled floors with large-format tile, niches dedicated to shampoo and soap storage, a bench, and new dual showerheads.

The suspended vanity with a quartz countertop shows subtle veining, while gorgeously emulating marble.

“The new soaker tub with jets has spa elements Julia loves, along with light technology and aroma therapy features so essential oils can calm you as you bathe,” Shelby explained. “When I walked into the primary suite, I knew I could take elements that were already there and do a simple design in the bathroom, that met their tastes.”

Shelby also stressed that the power of lighting is so transformative, and that going from a yellow/warm light to a clear/clean light, showcased the glass-block window perfectly.

“When you are getting ready for the day in the morning, lighting is powerful, and you want to be able to dim it when you are putting on makeup, and make it bright enough when you are dressing,” she concluded.
