Pets might have the best seat in the house!
Dog nooks are an amazing idea, whether carved into a space over or under the staircase or placed in the kitchen just below the countertops where cabinets may typically be found.
Some homeowners have even created cozy napping spots for their pets directly underneath a family room coffee table. The ideas are endless and will truly make your pet feel like royalty.
Nico, the Brown’s Boxer, is caught enjoying a day at the spa in the Brown’s home. The bright and colorful wallpaper is enough to cheer up any dog that may not always be ready to hit the shower, and the glass doors prevent excess water from collecting on the floor when shower time becomes play time.
Teri and Jay Brown, owners of a one-of-a-kind villa at Prairiefire, are just like most any other pet owners, but have clearly taken that affection to an enviable extreme. This indoor pet area, complete with a full-size shower, bench, and plenty of storage space makes this doggy shower a leading contender in design styles for residential pet spaces.
Located on the main level of their villa, easily accessible from the garage, Teri and Jay’s dogs – Nico, a Boxer, and Boo Brown, a Goldendoodle – are afforded the five-star treatment, as a result of Teri’s colorful thinking.
“Both of our dogs are relatively big,” she expressed. “And when they go outside and run around, their paws can get quite dirty and muddy, and Boo Brown’s fur is like Velcro, as she brings in everything that sticks to her!”
Teri wanted the dog shower so that her dogs could continually enjoy the outdoors without the added mess they would inevitably track in on a daily basis. She can use it for a quick spot cleaning on the dogs or indulge them in their bi-weekly full shower experience she gives them.
Added touches to the space include ample shelving, baskets, and a boot bench. The glass doors on the shower prevent excess splashing, and the tile flooring makes clean-up a breeze. The hand-held shower apparatus is a dream-come-true for Teri, who admits that her small stature could use a bit of assistance when power-cleaning the pooches!

When the homeowners decided to expand their garage area, they wanted to configure enough space for these lucky girls to have their own “retreat” after Kansas City dog training exercises. Within the expanded laundry room, mud room and office, Luna and Izzy have a custom cabinet built just for them, housing their crates, leashes, collars and extra food storage. They even like to lounge in their new digs when one of their humans is working in the office they share.
