This stunning residence in Mission, Kansas, certainly blazed a trail in eye-catching outdoor living spaces when its homeowners decided to incorporate a luxurious yet user-friendly backyard entertainment and play area. Central to this space is the custom-designed kitchen that is any hostess’ dream-come-true. Designed by David Coon of Hermes Landscaping, Inc., this structured yet flexible outdoor living area boasts a cornucopia of exciting perks, including a built-in gas grill, ample cabinet space for storage and a mini fridge perfect for chilling bottles of wine, beer, and sodas.

The homeowners wanted to extend the footprint of the interior of the home, creating an outdoor living, cooking and dining area accented with a natural appeal to maintain an open-air vibe.

“The base of the cabinet that houses the grill is comprised of a rumbled wall, a treatment provided from bricks that are tumbled to give it that aged and natural look while still giving it character,” noted Rodolfo Padilla, Lead Installer on the project with nearly 20 years of skilled artistry in the landscaping industry.

Other highlights of the kitchen area include the limestone slab for the countertop which enjoys a honed finish with a breathable sealer to repel stains; stone pillars with built-in lights underneath for a perfect evening ambiance; and additional rumbled bricks of irregular shapes as the foundation of the patio, giving it that custom-made charm and appeal. A relaxed seating area off to the side extends from the French doors that lead into the home.
