This Mission Hills master bath remodel proves that not all bathrooms have to be sterile and cold to lean towards a modern and contemporary vibe. With its emphasis on a minimalist palette, the implementation of varying textures, materials and streamlined storage serve to create a calm and airy space, perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day.
The outdated master bathroom underwent a few reconfigurations to accommodate a larger shower, a makeup counter, and a private toilet area. The clear glass section of the shower gives it the appearance of being larger and brighter, and the builder-added teakwood bench adds just enough character and charm to its personality.
“The homeowners wanted more clean lines but also desired a layer of warmth, so we incorporated the cherry vanity,” expressed Sue Shinneman, Owner and Certified Kitchen Designer with Kitchen Studio: Kansas City, who worked in conjunction with contractor Rhino Builders and Elizabeth Goltz Rishel of Orion Design.
The well-edited porcelain tile embraces the shower walls and the accompanying flooring. The small-scale porcelain mosaic tile highlights the shower floor, ensuring that even the smallest of details count in the overall design of this space.
Quartz countertops sit upon the vanity and the makeup counter, the latter of which boasts a pull-out hair drawer complete with outlet and metal bin, perfect for storing and cooling down heat-activated hair tools.
Lighting was essential in the design of this room, with LED lights running horizontally above each mirror over the vanity and the same lights turned vertically, flanking the makeup mirror.
Each element within this bathroom plays a strong and dutiful role, all standing as important accents of the area. The strategically placed selections maintain the intended clean lines while adding a layer of intriguing materials to the mix.
“The warmth of the cherry and dark grey shower tile complement each other very well,” expressed Shinneman.
