Gift yourself a relaxing facial during the holiday season!

Story by Judy Spaar

What could be more rejuvenating than a facial? Your skin will sing as the sensations calm and help you slow down during the holiday season, which brings on more stress points, like welcome or unwelcome time spent with family and friends, preparing elaborate holiday feasts, attending the endless festivities, and finding those perfect gifts. Think of a facial as a big drink of water for your skin! And who doesn’t want to look healthy, hydrated, and radiant?

Yes, along with the warm emotional moments, this is a busy and sometimes overwhelming time. It is also a time to take care of yourself, giving yourself a breather in between the madness that comes with this time of the year. We turned to Keegan Corrigan, owner of The Only Facial, on the benefits of getting a facial.

After traversing the skincare landscape her whole life, Keegan found a unique 60-minute fix that redirected her life. She shared an amazing 11-step facial that she was introduced to. “The best part was being able to fully relax, feel heard, and not be upsold. I started going every month to keep up with my skin’s natural cell turnover, give myself 60 minutes of me time, and finally feel confident in my skin.” It was such a wonderful experience that Keegan was inspired to bring the benefits of a facial to others, recently opening The Only Facial location in Overland Park, KS.

In the busy lives we lead, finding a moment to care for ourselves can be challenging. Facials provide that much-needed escape, offering a blend of luxurious care and effective skincare. Experience the healing power of touch and the rejuvenating properties that facials bring.

If you’ve never gotten a facial, you might not totally understand the appeal. Why would you need someone else to wash your face for you? But facials are much more than that, and in addition to feeling great, they have huge benefits for your skin.

Camelia Bessette, Keegan’s partner and manager, shared, “My favorite part of what I do is seeing the way someone’s confidence grows as they reach their milestones. There has never been a day during which I have felt like I was simply going to work, I have always felt as if I am showing up to do what I love!”

Even people who have clear skin can benefit from facials, especially because clear skin doesn’t always equate to healthy skin. Facials can help hydrate, plump and protect your skin for the long haul.

The Only Facial co-founder, Andrea Erker, shares that facials are a magical way to relax and refuel. “You, like me,  will love the experience,” she said.

So, what type of facial is right for you? These are some tips when choosing the right fit, and proven benefits that come from this pampering escapade.

What Are Facials?

Facials are a luxurious treat for your skin, combining multiple steps to ensure optimal skincare. At their core, facials are a multi-step beauty treatment aimed at rejuvenating your skin. Here’s a breakdown of what a typical facial involves:

Deep Cleansing

Facials start with a thorough cleansing process that goes beyond your daily wash. This step removes dirt, oil, and impurities, unclogging pores to prevent breakouts. It’s like giving your skin a fresh start!

Exfoliation

Next comes exfoliation, which sloughs off dead skin cells and promotes cell turnover. This step reveals a brighter, smoother complexion and helps your skin absorb other products better.

Hydration

Hydration is key to plump, youthful skin. Facials often include moisturizing masks or serums that infuse your skin with much-needed moisture, leaving it soft and supple.

Massage

Facial massage isn’t just relaxing; it boosts blood circulation, bringing oxygen and nutrients to your skin. This helps in cell regeneration and gives you a natural glow.

Masks

Masks are customized to your skin’s needs, whether it’s hydration, detoxification, or anti-aging. They provide intensive treatment, targeting specific concerns for visible results.

Extractions

Extractions are performed by skilled estheticians to safely remove blackheads and whiteheads without causing damage. This step is crucial for clear, smooth skin.

For most people, getting a facial every four to six weeks is ideal. This timing aligns with the skin’s natural renewal cycle, helping to maintain a clear and healthy complexion. Regular facials can support your at-home skincare routine, ensuring your skin always looks its best.

Skin Type

Your skin type plays a big role in deciding the frequency of facials. If you have oily skin prone to acne, consider more frequent treatments, like every two weeks, until your skin calms down. For those with combination, dry, or normal skin, a monthly facial should suffice to keep your skin balanced and hydrated.

“The best part [of the experience] is being able to fully relax and feel heard. Following a facial, your skin will feel unbelievably smooth, and you will feel confident in your skin,” Keegan expressed.

If you think about it, there really is no better time than the holidays to try this experience as we tend to focus on everyone else and forget ourselves. Think of it as super self-care present for YOU!
