Randy Wilson spotted potential in Platte City during his regular commute to Kansas City flooring jobs. Instead of just passing through, he planted roots there in 1986. Today, Wilson’s Floor Covering stands as proof that his instinct was right: a testament to how a simple vision can grow into a cornerstone of a community.

“This community shaped us,” said Aubrie Weed, the company’s Vice President. “We’ve watched families grow up, helped them turn houses into homes, and become part of their stories along    the way. It’s more than just business. It’s also about building relationships that last generations.”

Walk into their showroom, and you won’t get the typical sales experience. The team digs deeper, asking about pets, kids, and lifestyle before suggesting options.

“Every home is different,” Weed explained. “What works for a young family might not suit empty nesters. We focus on finding that perfect match between lifestyle and flooring choice.”

The local historic homes keep the crew sharp, presenting unique challenges that demand creative solutions.

“These old houses love to surprise us,” Weed emphasized. “Even after 38 years, we still encounter ‘firsts’ – whether it’s unusual subfloors or architectural quirks. But that’s what makes our work interesting. Every project teaches us something new and pushes us to innovate.”

To those feeling overwhelmed by flooring choices, Weed offered straightforward advice.

“Don’t rush. Stay within budget,” she suggested. “Research matters, but so does expert guidance. We’ve seen trends come and go, and we know what stands the test of time.” This approach has earned them loyal customers who return for multiple projects and recommend them to friends and family.

Quality control remains central to their operation. New products face extensive testing before earning a spot in the showroom.

“We are constantly trying out new products to make sure they will live up to expectations,” Weed expressed. This careful vetting process has built trust spanning generations of customers.

Fresh View

For those planning their next flooring project, Weed shared a valuable tip: “Keep your permanent fixtures like hardwood and tile in neutral tones. This way, they’ll stand the test of time. Save the bold choices for easily-replaced elements like carpet. This approach gives you flexibility to update your style without major renovations.

Wilson’s approach goes beyond mere product knowledge. They understand that floors witness life’s big moments – first steps, family gatherings, quiet Sunday mornings. Whether helping customers choose classic hardwood or modern luxury vinyl, they consider how each option fits into real life. Their team guides customers through the vast array of choices, ensuring each selection matches not just aesthetic preferences but practical needs.

From its start as Randy’s vision to today’s full-service operation, Wilson’s Floor Covering has maintained its small-town values while embracing industry innovations. Their success stems from a simple philosophy: treat customers like neighbors and every project like it’s their own home. After nearly four decades, they continue to demonstrate that combining expertise with genuine care   creates lasting success.
