Locks & Pulls
Exclusive Hardware
Story by Mollie Pfeifer / Sponsored Content
In a world where most people don’t think about hardware until the very end of a project, Locks and Pulls has built a reputation on doing the opposite. For decades, the locally owned Overland Park and Kansas City showrooms have helped homeowners, builders, and designers understand that the right hardware doesn’t finish a space; it defines it.
From modest renovations to large-scale custom builds, Locks and Pulls offers an experience shaped by expertise and continuity rather than aisles or algorithms. The showrooms feature elevated collections not typically found elsewhere, paired with a knowledgeable team that guides customers through the selection process. Whether clients prefer to browse independently or collaborate closely with a specialist, the focus is always on clarity and confidence.
That approach extends across every type of client they serve. Builders, designers, and larger remodeling firms often rely on a full-service model that includes visiting the home to identify and count every piece of hardware needed, coordinating orders, and timing delivery to the construction schedule; homeowners are equally supported whether they are replacing a single lockset or outfitting an entire home. As owner Adam Hensley notes, “We are the only place in town that does decorative hardware only. You could go to a plumbing showroom or a lumber yard that sells some hardware, but the variety we sell, and the knowledge of our team is far superior.”
Recent investments in the showrooms have further enhanced the experience. Displays have been refreshed to highlight the newest collections, outdated products have been removed, and expanded boards allow customers to see finishes and details up close. A visual quoting system now provides clear, comprehensive proposals that show exactly what is being ordered. “It has changed the game for us quite a bit,” Hensley says, “but it still allows us to have the local, family-owned vibe we’ve always been known for.”
Design preferences continue to evolve, and Locks and Pulls remains closely aligned with where those conversations are heading. Brass tones have made a strong return, with today’s high-end manufacturers offering a wide range of nuanced finishes beyond traditional polished or antique options. Mixing metal finishes throughout a home remains popular, as does textured hardware featuring knurling, coin edges, and other delicate details. Many of these offerings fall into what manufacturers describe as transitional styles, offering a flexible middle ground between modern and traditional styles. Brands such as Armac Martin, Classic Brass, Ashley Norton, and Waterstreet Brass exemplify the level of craftsmanship and material quality customers are increasingly seeking.
Hardware is all they do, and they do it exceptionally well. Customers don’t just leave with products; they leave with guidance, reassurance, and often a relationship. “It’s really fun when homeowners start learning our staff members’ names and we learn theirs,” Hensley says. “You can’t go to a big-box store and have a go-to person who knows your project.”
If you’re looking to enhance a space, an in-person visit to the Overland Park or Kansas City showroom will offer insight into the role hardware plays in improving the look, feel, and function of a home.
FRESH VIEW
When it comes to decorative hardware for your home, Locks and Pulls should be your first (and likely only) stop. Since hardware is ALL THEY DO you won’t find such an expansive array of selection, price and expertise anywhere else. They just completed their 40th year of business in Kansas City last year. A great milestone and testament to their service.
