Welcome to fall weather in Kansas City! Such a pretty time of year and one of the best seasons for outfitting, in my opinion. So what’s in for fall?
Academic-inspired pieces are a big trend this season, with collegiate plaids and professor-worthy blazers coming down the fall runways in droves. I took that concept and ran with it for this look, starting with this full pleated plaid midi skirt. I really couldn’t resist the skirt’s twirl factor – way too good to pass up!
I popped the skirt on over a black turtleneck bodysuit and tall black boots. Those slouchy boots of the 80s and 90s are back – when paired with a longer skirt, the feel is 1995 Kindergarten Teacher in the best way possible.
A boyfriend blazer with a small houndstooth print really brought the look into full higher education mode while also providing a lightweight warm layer for chilly fall days.
Tip for mixing prints: for maximum style success, keep a consistent color palette throughout the outfit and prints you’re mixing. By staying in the neutral family with this look, I paired a plaid and a houndstooth without breaking a sweat.
Will you be working the academia trend into your fall wardrobe this season?
