The Augusta: Where Contemporary Design Meets Timeless Elegance
Located in Montebella subdivision in Riverside, Missouri, The Augusta is a 3,100-square-foot home that blends contemporary design with transitional warmth. Built by Ben Sumada of BenMar Construction, this home proves that modern design doesn’t have to feel cold or uninviting.
A Fresh Take on Contemporary Design
“We have always leaned to a more contemporary design but wanted to make it a more inviting contemporary which brought in more transitional styling in the cabinets, millwork and light fixtures,” said Sumada. This approach shows throughout The Augusta, where clean lines mix with thoughtful details to create what Sumada calls “transitional contemporary” style.
The 1.5-story home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms arranged for modern family living. Two bedrooms and two baths are on the first floor, while upstairs you’ll find two more bedrooms, each with private bathrooms and access to an open loft overlooking the great room and entry. The loft works well for kids’ play, homework, or just hanging out.
Quality in the Details
The primary suite really shows off the home’s style.
“Between the closet and primary bath, you will get an overall feel of the attention to detail and craftsmanship that makes this house one of a kind,” Sumada explained. The finish work here sets this home apart from typical contemporary builds.
The team focused on getting the small details right. Two-toned Emtek Conical doorknobs add a nice touch, while Top Knobs cabinet hardware features a knurled machined finish that adds texture throughout the home. Champagne Bronze Delta fixtures pull everything together, creating a mixed-metal look that feels current without being trendy.
Built for Growing Families
The Augusta’s layout makes sense for modern families. With bedrooms upstairs that give kids their own space and private bathrooms, everyone gets some independence while staying connected. The open loft is a natural gathering spot that keeps sight lines to the common areas below. The basement offers another 1,700+ square feet of potential finishing space, perfect for adding one to two more bedrooms, a bar, and a large lower-level living room. Families can literally grow into this house over time.
A Different Approach to Trends
While many contemporary homes chase whatever’s popular right now, The Augusta takes a smarter approach. The earth-toned neutral colors provide a good backdrop that lets homeowners add their own personality through accent colors and furniture choices.
Instead of loading up on accent walls in every room like some builders do, this home lets the quality materials and craftsmanship do the talking. The result is a house that feels contemporary without being driven by trends and is one that should age well over time.
