Since 1957, Bodine-Ashner Builders has taken a deliberately hands-on approach to building; one rooted in direct involvement, thoughtful decision-making, and lasting relationships. Now in its third generation, the Kansas City–based company brings nearly seven decades of experience to each project while remaining closely involved from start to finish.

Bodine-Ashner Builders is led by Chris Ashner and his son, Chris, who are hands-on in every phase of construction. Rather than scaling for volume, the firm limits the number of active projects it takes on at any given time. “We don’t take a lot of jobs at a time,” Ashner says. “We take only what we can manage on a day-to-day basis.” That restraint allows communication to stay direct and decisions to remain with the people leading the work.

That structure also allows the firm to operate without superintendents. Instead, both Chris Ashner and his son remain in active engagement with homeowners and trades throughout the build. By managing no more than a few projects at a time, the team stays closely connected on site, addresses issues quickly, and maintains consistency from start to finish.

That level of commitment begins well before construction starts. The Ashners place a strong emphasis on early planning, helping clients understand not only design goals, but also the realities of building or remodeling a home. “There’s a lot of conversation on the front end,” Ashner explains. “Designs, wants, needs, and expectations.” By addressing those factors early, projects move forward with fewer disruptions and a shared set of expectations.

The father-and-son partnership brings balance to the company. The elder Ashner contributes decades of experience shaped by the firm’s long history, while his son brings a fresh perspective and consistent on-site presence. Together, that combination results in a workflow that is steady, responsive, and grounded in shared responsibility.

As construction costs continue to fluctuate, the firm focuses on practical solutions that preserve both intent and budget. “My son and I excel at giving people alternatives and options,” Ashner says. By rethinking materials and execution, Bodine-Ashner Builders helps clients achieve their goals without unnecessary excess.

Throughout the process, trust is built through consistency and shared expectations. “Our customers become friends throughout the project,” Ashner adds. For both father and son, the most   rewarding part of the work is seeing a client’s plans realized in a finished space that reflects how they live. “Watching the customer happy and seeing their vision take shape,” the younger Chris says, “that’s what makes it worth it.”

Bodine-Ashner Builders is committed to making their customers happy through personal engagement at every stage of  the process. From early planning conversations to final walk-throughs, the firm stays closely engaged, responsive, and accountable, ensuring clients feel   supported, informed, and confident from start to finish. That level of care has defined the company for nearly seven decades, and it continues to shape how each project is approached today.

FRESH VIEW

When building a custom home, homeowners need to make sure they have an open and clear line of communication with the “quarterback” of their homebuilding team, and also have a personable connection with them. There are literally hundreds of details in a home, so effective and congenial communication is the key to success. Select a builder that has these likeable and agreeable qualities.
