Johnson County Young Matrons once again opens a beautiful home in southern Johnson County for a fall Holiday Home Tour, October 24th and 25th. This year, the home is a 150-acre estate which includes an 8,500 sq. ft. home (the former estate of Darol Rodrock) located at 199th & Quivira. The country estate is now home to Bourgmont Winery and Event Center. A spacious former horse stable, with the horse paddocks removed, it is now an elegant seamless event space with large chandeliers sparkling for important occasions. A 1,000 foot patio addition accommodates outside weddings and other events. There is also a tasting room, bridal room, and many other amenities. This wonderful event space will be this year’s venue for the ever popular JCYM Boutique, with many favorite returning vendors and new exciting ones for holiday shopping. Be sure and enjoy lunch at the JCYM Estate Café inside the stable venue. The gentlemen’s estate showcases a beautiful pond, arbor, grape vines and newly planted apple trees.

JCYM is pleased to have so many of the city’s top designers participating in our home tour this year and you will see their creative designs as you tour the home. Incorporating his signature innovative designs, Craig Sole, owner and designer of Craig Sole Designs, has showcased French inspired great urn planters overflowing with tall birch poles, an abundant mixture of greenery, and shades of golds and silvers with accents of fleur de lis design which welcome you through the columned façade. When you step into the entry hall you will see a towering barrel ceiling with a faux finish which extends into the living room and to the right a spacious dining room. Pottery Barn designer Lynne Moran designed the tablescape with beautiful classic plaids and buttery soft velvets including the warmth of candlelight and the intrigue of branchy blooms, giving it a rustic-luxe appeal in order to create a beautiful, comfortable room for holiday entertaining. The library opposite the dining room is hidden behind pocket doors. The room showcases beautiful custom library paneling with bookcases containing many first edition books. It is designed with an artful coffered ceiling and adjoining assistant’s study. Be sure and notice as you tour the home the beautiful artwork selected by Brooke Morehead and Megan Hoban, from Prairiebrooke, a second-generation, woman owned, local company.

A beautiful view of the picturesque countryside is captured in the tall open living room windows. KC Surroundings store owner and designer, Terri Mancuso, along with designer Diana Stephens and floral designer Kathy Spellerberg have incorporated glamorous silver, platinum and champagne neutrals to adorn the tree and make a majestic statement on the towering carved stone fireplace. Mixed metallics with sparkling crystal are seen throughout the room in the holiday décor with tall silver soldiers and glittering cone trees.

Stepping into the hearth room you know for sure that Chad Reborn and Carrie Conrad, Basset Furniture designers, wanted to bring a casual/luxe style to this room. It certainly complements the grandness of the home yet recognizes that this is a casual gathering area. They used neutral grays and tans, layered with textural pillows for depth. This space is anchored by a beautiful wool rug, which adds interest and defines the area. The design is versatile, so personal touches can be added seasonally. In this room, Craig Sole adds exceptional design to embellish the banisters in grand style with rhinestone reindeer, sparkling Christmas trees, adorned with French pears in gold, crystal and silver all infused into a glorious combination of lush holiday greenery.

The open floor plan kitchen includes ample eating space for friends and family and an adjacent island for additional seating and friendly gathering. The timing of this year’s JCYM’s Home Tour perfectly synchronizes with the William Sonoma launch of Lydia and Rob Mondavi’s Home Collection. Four generations of Napa winemaking, infused with Southern hospitality, distinguish this new collection of pillows, throws, and ice buckets and truly captures the art of living well which designer David Simpson has incorporated into this “party ready” tablescape.

The sun porch in this beautiful Kansas home has the StickSisters’ signature stamp of rustic/chic style. Designer and shop owner Nancy Davidson, with help from designers Eli Chamberlain and Laura Curran, create a vision for this casual room by adding texture and a touch of glitz to make the room as inviting for entertaining or relaxing as any other room in the house. Colorful rug, pillows, ribbon, and ornaments combine to give the room a decided holiday feel, while still highlighting the character of the room’s windows and beautiful view of the property. The wreaths in the windows, along with candlelight and greenery tucked into lanterns and arrangements around the room, add the perfect spark of drama and classic seasonal décor. The inviting sun porch opens to a grand balcony overlooking the pictorial landscape. A wonderful space for entertaining or just relaxing in the evening.

The scenic countryside and winery surrounding this year’s JCYM showcase home inspired Lynne Moran, Trade Specialist with Pottery Barn to use the power of texture, the energy of color and the beauty of patina to complement this classic estate home’s breath-taking views which are captured so beautifully from the master bedroom balcony. Be sure and peek into the master bedroom closet for new ideas for your own closets and storage as created by Maureen Yoder, April Shea and Kary Hawley from The Container Store. In this well-appointed closet you will also find wonderful inspiration for a beautiful gown from the Gown Gallery for your holiday events and festivities.  Down the hall are additional bedrooms, including rooms for the children. So many children love to have sleepovers and Pottery Barn Kids have captured a charming feel for the children’s room that just says “come over and stay awhile, it will be so much fun!”

Venture to the lower level of this spacious home and you will be greeted by seven Christmas trees highlighting each of the JCYM philanthropies: Darol Rodrock Foundation, Evergreen Living Innovations, Inc., Growing Futures Early Education Center, Inc., Johnson County Christmas Bureau, KidsTLC, Inc., SAFEHOME, Inc. and the Shawnee Indian Mission Foundation which are supported by the proceeds from the Holiday Tour and Boutique plus additional JCYM events and activities. This area of the home includes a bar and catering kitchen where the bust of a horse head is featured on the hood of the cooktop. Certainly a nod to the history of the estate. In this wonderful family room space designer and owner of Parker Payne Dan Parker has created a feeling of whimsy which is a perfect setting for children but has also incorporated that rustic lodge feeling for an area of the home that invites grownups to relax and enjoy.  Every home needs a space for projects and fun, and The Container Store has provided endless ideas to make the activities fun, creative and organized.

Added JCYM events this year are a VIP Sneak Peek Preview at the home on October 24th which will include refreshments, shopping at the Boutique and the opportunity to be one of the first to see the home in all its holiday finery.  Also, that evening you can enjoy a Night Out at the Boutique with music, food and prize drawings. Thursday morning a Taste of Yoga for all levels will also include lunch. Additional details and ticket outlet locations are available on the JCYM website, JCYM.net. Before you leave the estate, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to register for the drawing for a beautiful Kendra Scott necklace for yourself or as a gift. After you tour the home, it will be very easy to follow the brick path to the event center to shop and feast. Holiday splendor, warmth and inspiration is included in this year’s JCYM home Tour. You will indeed have a feeling you have been swept away to the French countryside.
