Have you dipped into the bike shorts trend yet? I think we can safely say they’re back (to stay!) after a few solid seasons in the warm weather style rotation.
Bike short-centered looks typically lean into their athletic origin, worn with casual, workout-adjacent tops and sneakers. But did you know you can dress these shorts up?
Start with a pair of basic black bike shorts. I’m wearing a 6-inch version here, which is a good length for those of us 5’5 and under because it lengthens the leg line without venturing into a hot pants territory. (If you’re on the taller side or want more coverage, look for a 7- or 8-inch short.)
I layered a bright, oversized button-up on top of a black crop top. A button-up instantly elevates the look, as it brings some sophistication that a t-shirt alone can’t provide. This vibrant green has been everywhere this season! I buttoned the front button, but this shirt also works worn open as a lightweight jacket.
Keeping it green, I added a fun pair of green sandals with a lucite heel. Hello, 2000s! As much as I love my sneakers, you can’t deny what a heel can do for a look! Instant style boost.
A green crossbody bag put an exclamation point on this vivid monochrome vibe. I love something small like this to throw on when going out because it’ll hold your essentials without being a burden to drag around. And how fun is that chunky gold chain? A great detail to tie in the splashes of gold jewelry.
Lastly, I added some turquoise to the mix in the form of a necklace and a smattering of rings. The turquoise compliments the green without distracting and anchors things in July and August as a quintessential summer stone.
I hope this look gives you some summer outfitting inspiration, KC! Who says you can’t take your athleisure to the next level? Certainly not me!
