When Wendy Mayes was approached to recapture the charm of a 1920s Bungalow, she recognized the home’s challenges and still delivered, complete with integrating the clients’ desire for modern highlights.
A previous remodel brought 1970’s dark finishes, lowered soffits, and other changes that reduced usable space. Wendy’s recommendations made the space feel larger, bringing lightness to the details of the space’s original trims and finishes, preserving the character of the home.
Modern conveniences, lighting, and styling are touches that Wendy combined to complement and enhance this bungalow. Wendy used cabinetry lighting and accessories, sleek finishes, and appliances like a modern hood with LED accent light and a speed oven. The results are a space that preserves the unique character of its origins while delivering modern kitchen conveniences and a greatly enhanced feeling of more space and flow.
Wendy has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Kansas State University and became certified as a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers in 1998. With her career focus in kitchen and bath design, she joined the National Kitchen and Bath Association and earned Certified Kitchen Designer credentials in 2001. Wendy has maintained both certifications since, through professional continuing education at the organizations. She has also been nationally recognized and published by the NKBA, Sub-Zero/Wolf, Great American Kitchens, and Women’s Day Kitchens Edition.
