Stoneleaf Homes
2nd Generation Northland Custom Builder
Story by Ann Butenas | Sponsored Content
In the bustling world of home construction, where trends come and go, and competition is fierce, one company stands out for its commitment to quality, personalization, and legacy. Stoneleaf Homes, founded in 2020 and helmed by Alexis Goin, is making waves in Kansas City’s Northland with its unique approach to homebuilding.
At first glance, Goin might be described as a second-generation homebuilder, but her story runs much deeper. She represents the third generation of a family dedicated to creating homes and building dreams. Her journey began long before she took the reins of Stoneleaf Homes in 2020, with roots that stretch back to her childhood and a family legacy that spans decades.
Goin’s father, who started working on homes at the tender age of eight, learned the trade from his parents – Goin’s grandparents – who were homebuilders in Iowa. This rich family history in construction laid the foundation for Goin’s future. She fondly remembers receiving her first toolbox from her grandfather at just five years old, a symbolic gesture that would foreshadow her future in the industry.
Growing up, Goin was immersed in the world of homebuilding. As a young child, job sites were her playground, where she would sit on a blanket with a small TV while her parents worked tirelessly around her. This early exposure gave her a unique perspective on all aspects of the business, from the ground up. As she grew older, Goin actively helped her parents on job sites, from framing, picking up trash, power washing, applying blue tape for touch-ups and everything in between. These experiences helped develop her expectations of being a builder and how a home should be built. She even attended home closings before she started school, gaining invaluable insights into the final stages of the homebuilding process.
The family’s move to Kansas City when Goin was three years old marked a significant turning point. Her father, working for President Homes (the same company her grandparents were associated with), was tasked with managing the Kansas City branch. His success in this role, culminating in being named Salesperson of the Year, set the stage for the family’s future endeavors in the area.
In the early 2000s, Goin’s father established Distinctive Homes, and later founded Stoneleaf Homes with a partner. It was this latest venture that Goin would eventually purchase, selling Distinctive Homes in the process and becoming the sole owner of Stoneleaf Homes.
Today, Stoneleaf Homes primarily serves the Northland area of Kansas City, from Liberty to Parkville. What sets the company apart is Goin’s dedication to custom building. While her typical price point starts at $600,000, she offers flexibility, with plans that can be modified for lower budgets. This adaptability allows her to cater to a wide range of clients and their unique needs.
Goin takes pride in running a smaller operation, which allows her to focus on building fewer homes per year but ensuring each one is of the highest quality. This approach enables her to offer a more personalized, hands-on experience for her clients. Whether it’s a custom accent wall for a playroom or a three-tiered bunk bed, Goin relishes the challenge of incorporating unique elements that reflect each client’s lifestyle and preferences.
Her daily visits to job sites demonstrate her commitment to quality and attention to detail. Goin’s passion for design shines through in her work, as she takes great satisfaction in transforming ideas into tangible, livable spaces. Her favorite aspect of the job is focusing on the fully custom elements that make each home unique.
For Goin, the goal extends beyond simply constructing houses. She aims to provide her clients with peace of mind and a wonderful living space that can become a legacy for their families. This philosophy echoes the values instilled in her by her parents and grandparents, who set an example of hard work and dedication throughout her life.
In an industry often dominated by large corporations and cookie-cutter designs, Stoneleaf Homes and Goin offer a refreshing alternative. By combining generations of experience with a personal touch and a commitment to quality, they’re not just building homes – they’re creating spaces where memories are made, and futures unfold.
As Stoneleaf Homes continues to grow and thrive under Goin’s leadership, it stands as a testament to the power of family legacy, personalized service, and a true passion for homebuilding. In the Northland of Kansas City, Goin and Stoneleaf Homes are turning houses into homes, one dream at a time.
