September in Kansas City may mean football and back to school, yet most of the month is still summertime hot – and this ensemble captures that sweet spot between late-summer warmth and early-fall polish.
The centerpiece is a cherry red poplin maxi dress. Spaghetti straps hint at summer, but a long hemline makes this dress early fall-friendly. (Imagine this with loafers and socks in early October!) I love the light structure of a poplin piece. While it’s normally a fabric we see in button-ups, this dress took the textile in a different direction.
A trendy item you may want to add to your early fall shopping cart: a pair of mesh Mary Jane ballet flats. So breathable with a definite edge. Wear with dresses, jeans, and even trousers – the ballet flat is back!
When the morning air starts to get crisp (or the AC is still blasting in every building in town), a cashmere-blend cardigan draped casually over the shoulders provides just enough warmth without sacrificing the dress’s shape. This basic black cardigan pairs perfectly with everything and is a versatile piece to incorporate into outfits as the seasons switch.
September is all about transition, and this outfit helps achieve it. Balanced, bright, but anchored in the classics.
