Leather Looks for Early Fall

After a hot summer, who’s ready for some fall weather? I’m certainly itching to start putting together fall looks – cozy sweaters and edgy jackets, specifically – but the weather here in Kansas City is going to make us wait a little bit until it’s cool enough for all that.

In the meantime, you can get a fall feel without breaking into a full-body sweat. I started here with a faux leather skirt – if you think leather is reserved only for jackets and boots, think again! This fall you’ll see lots of leather skirts, trousers, and blazers. A leather mini hints at fall without going all-out October. (And this basic black means you can remix it over and over again!)

A white button-up shirt is a classic, but an oversized version? Less corporate, more modern. To give this shirt some shape, I tucked it into the leather mini and rolled the sleeves for a distinctly off-duty feel.

What really makes the outfit: a pair of killer boots. I know, I know – we normally reserve tall boots for fall, but who says we can’t bring them out a bit early for this in-between season? Days stay warm, but nights cool off come September. When paired with bare legs and mini skirt, a tall boot lends a cool city vibe to an outfit. And these croc boots are doing just that!

Once fall weather really settles in, these boots will take any pair of slim-cut jeans to the next level. Create chic ensembles by adding the white button-up to pair with wide-leg trousers or a pleated midi skirt. As for that leather mini? Throw on a chunky cable knit sweater, a pair of tights, and an ankle bootie, and you’ve got yourself a cute fall outfit!
