TOP DESIGN 2021
Architectural extras play an integral role in elevating a home to luxury status. Award-winning builder John Geer is known for attention to such detail, along with his focus on functional creativity and excellence in craftsmanship.
After working for more than 35 years in various partnerships, Geer decided to establish his own luxury custom home business, dedicating his experience, talents and knowledge to a platform that demands the high level of customer satisfaction for which he is known. Geer understands that opulence does not end at the threshold. It is the continued customization and detail that is artistically laced throughout each design that speaks volumes about the high standards to which Geer builds.
Recognized as the Winning Design for 2021 in Kansas City Homes & Style’s exclusive Top Homes section, this 4,768 square foot home known as the Chatham Reverse, features four bedrooms and four full bathrooms and is located within the Hills of Leawood. This home features a full walk-out lower level, a four-car garage and enjoys a very open concept, leaning towards a transitional style with a whisper of contemporary elements defined by its bright and airy spaces.
“We appreciate the recognition and are thrilled to be selected for this award,” noted Geer, who was quick to acknowledge the team effort involved in this project. In cooperation with architect Scott Bickford and interior designer Sarah Neligan of Madden-McFarland Interiors, Geer has successfully married practicality with quintessential artisanship.
“Sarah is great to work with,” expressed Geer. “She pulled all of the design elements, colors and custom furniture together to create the true essence of this home.”
Neligan dove into the natural expression of this home by incorporating layers of oak, walnut, real stone accents, quartz countertops throughout, shiplap ceiling detail and porcelain tile, partnered in perfect harmony with a relaxed color palette, inviting textures and unique materials. Seven-inch wide hardwood floors on the main level offer a soft, natural finish.
The master shower is comprised of all porcelain tile, exuding a geological feel with natural grays and subtle blue hues, defining an organic and natural movement to the space. The tile continues as it creates an accent wall behind the large soaker tub.
More than just state-of-the-art appliances, the kitchen gains favor for its spacious layout, making cooking and entertaining easier. The contiguous prep kitchen with full pantry keeps the work space hidden from the entertainment space. Neligan again incorporated innovation throughout this space.
“The backsplash behind the range is all glass tile, which was chosen for its pattern, color and sheen, as it gives a lot of reflection,” she indicated.
Textured tile is also evident in a 3-D format on the backsplash behind the lower level bar area. Neligan continued this theme in a lower level bathroom through the incorporation of subway tile with raised detail.
Another testament to the natural style is the upper level study with its expressive accent ceiling and contemporary light fixture.
“I wanted to have more than a standard ceiling treatment in this room,” said Neligan.
Other unexpected features include trimmed-out mirrored walls in the master bedroom and a structural suspended garage underneath one of the two-car garages which will be used as an exercise room. The second bedroom/flex room on the main level has access through a slider door to the vaulted deck, which is also accessible from the dining room.
Not only visually appealing, a John Geer custom home caters to energy efficiency. All exterior walls feature blown-in (BIB) insulation, and each home is outfitted with upgraded heating and cooling systems and a fresh air ERV system.
From expected function to brilliant form, each building experience with John Geer Custom Homes promises to be a truly rewarding and satisfactory experience.
