Celebrating 5 Years of Style
Since opening our front door 5 years ago, we have been inspired and delighted by the craftsmen, artisans, architects, designers, gardeners and people of Kansas City. So many of you have graced our pages with our readers embracing your works and talents. Flipping back through the issues, we ran across 5 of our favorites that deserve to be shared again. We can’t wait for the next 5 years to see what time brings us in design and the friendships we’ll make along the way.
1. Backyard Paradise
Hanging out by the pool is a summer staple but when you turn a backyard into a blissful escape, the relaxing really begins. We treated our readers to one such backyard and when we visited, we did not want to leave. It was like being on vacation every time you walked out the back door.
2. Meet People
Over the years, we have met so many fascinating people. Local celebs, star athletes and national stars. What we have found is the world is full of good people – it doesn’t matter their status, what matters is what’s inside. An interview with David Harbour proved this point again. Star of the Netflix series Stranger Things, David shared a personal side with us – on what draws him to his personal home and how mental illness can touch any of us, including himself.
3. Gardens
Mother Nature gives us presents year-round, but it is in the warmer months that we tend to appreciate her beauty. Lush gardens full of greenery and fragrant flowers wraps us in serenity. When we visited this garden, designed by a Johnson County Master Gardener, there were so many hidden nooks and crannies where we just wanted to sit and stay awhile.
4. Homes With Character
One of our more colorful guests we visited with was homeowner and chef Craig Adcock. His love for repurposing in his home lent a colorful, bold, whimsy-like look to his remodeled upstairs. We fell in love with so much with Craig and his home that we had to come back and share his retro lower level that spun us back in time.
5. Kitchens
Kitchens have always been a focal point in the home, a place where everyone gathers to partake in great conversation and delicious fares. Selecting our favorite from the past 5 years was no easy task as we loved every kitchen we have ever featured! We ended up selecting one designed by Kitchen Studio: Kansas City that boasts an enormous amount of space for gathering with lots of functionality, all in a clean design.
