And the Winners are…!

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the local Chapter of ASID Missouri West-Kansas celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the association and presented our local interior designers awards for their years of commitment, service and design excellence.

Co-hosted by Cambria, guests dined in the “Warehouse Elegance” of the Roaring Twenties, danced the Charleston with the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra and witnessed the presentation of the Chapter’s top Crystal Award; a symbol that reflects design excellence.

Renee Demott, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Kansas City Homes & Style did the honors as Master of Ceremonies. Guest speakers included Tressa Keely, Regional Vice President of Cambria and special guest speaker John P Cialone, FASID  |  NCIDQ  |  2024 Past Chair of the National ASID Board of Directors.

ASID members with five to fifty years in the society were acknowledged for their commitment to the association. Fifty year members received their Gold 50-Year pin.

A new award was introduced this year: the “ASID Design Community Spirit Award.” This award goes to anyone who has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the design community; not just ASID. This year’s winner is Wendall Gartman of Gartman Construction.

Last, but certainly not least, the 10 interior designers featured here received a Crystal Award for their outstanding work. Also awarded was the Best of Show – for the highest scoring points issued by the judges wherein they followed a stringent point system aligning with the standard principals and elements of interior design, including how design impacted the lives of their client.

The Lakewood Clubhouse

With upgrades to the entry, lobby, staircase, office, and restrooms, this clubhouse was transformed into a stylish and welcoming community hub. Now featuring a light and neutral color palette accented with espresso-toned oak, a sense of openness was created with the false skylights and LED ring fixtures brightening the staircase and seating areas. Custom laser-cut railings with a tree-inspired motif and copper-toned metal leaf artwork brought elements of nature indoors, while stacked limestone and soft blue accents echoed the area’s popular outdoor amenities. Thoughtfully curated art seamlessly connected the clubhouse interior to its surrounding environment.

Albrecht Remodel

Combining nostalgia with modern functionality, this remodel focused on preserving the essence of her grandmother while enhancing the kitchen’s functionality and flow. Key goals included incorporating green cabinetry reminiscent of her grandmother’s lime green kitchen, a China hutch for fine china, a large pantry, a large window above the sink, and a workspace for remote work.

The design involved an inviting aesthetic with features such as natural wood flooring, modern stainless-steel appliances from Z-Line, and a black quartz countertop. A desk area with open shelving, butcher block countertop, and lovely hutch showcases nostalgia.

Modern Elegance

This kitchen/dining/hearth renovation embodies the transformation of a dated, disjointed residence into a modern, open, and inviting sanctuary. The clients’ vision was to create a space that felt new, while maintaining warmth and character through the use of natural materials like white oak, stone, and soft gold accents. Their goals included enhancing flow, creating better functionality for entertaining, and updating the aesthetic to reflect a more current, transitional style.

Reynolds Patio Home

I have been a member of ASID for 20 years. Interior design is not an easy profession. There are so many ups and downs. But when my client says, “Everything looks fantastic, and words cannot express how much I appreciate all you’ve done to make this a home! Every time I walk in the door, I can’t believe it’s my house!” I feel so fortunate to be a part of this profession.

Cordillera Summer Mountain Living

Nestled in a Colorado luxury gated mountain community, this clubhouse’s upper deck sits a story and half above the newly constructed pools and landscape. Funds exhausted, as professional designers, we knew the upgrading of the deck was extremely important. Mainly because the upper deck offered an extension of the inside to the outside for their events which were often overflowing. We had just completed the remodel of the interior and if left unfurnished homeowners would bring used furniture to fit it out. Be assured the challenges were overcome and the solutions were unique.

Bath – Less than 150 sq. ft.

Warm and Modern Industrial Primary Bath

Welcome to your primary en-suite spa. It is a mix of cool steel gray, warm white, matte black, and minimal grain taupe wood cabinets.  Added in were many high-end touches. The homeowner wanted to get rid of the old corner Jacuzzi tub and the dated slate orange, gray, and black tile. The goal was to create a more modern but still functional, warm and inviting space that blends with the rest of the primary bedroom.

The Hideout at Cordillera

With the towering Rockies looking on, a horseback rider storms through canyons racing to one of his many destinations. Finally, he sees a marker in the distance, “Welcome to the Hideout.” Truly, a welcoming sight as he pulls up to the Pony Express Waystation.

Although the old log cabin no longer remains, the modern mountain facility stands in its place as a welcoming destination to gather, sip a cup of coffee while reading a newspaper or book, or pick up and peruse your mail; faithfully delivered by our modern day Pony Express.

Downtown Restored Farmhouse

This downtown Victorian farmhouse exemplifies the ideals of preservation and sustainability. Originally, due to the dilapidated state of the structure, this home was once under advisement to be demolished. With proper planning, this home found a new purpose as a hip, restored vacation spot.

The Hideout at Cordillera

Imagine a solo horseback rider storming up a small tight canyon with mini mountains on either side and beyond them the towering Rocky Mountains of the White River National Forest; home to the native Lakota American Indians. As he races to one of his many destinations, he and his horse are weary from days of travel. He knows the inhabitants in the area are anxiously awaiting his arrival.

Finally, he sees a marker in distance, “Welcome to the Hideout.” Truly, a welcoming sight with many in the community cheering the rider as he pulls up to the Pony Express Waystation.

That was the inspiration for what was to follow.

Fast forward to 2024; this community building/post office still serves the same purpose it did in 1865.

Although the old log cabin no longer remains, a mountain modern facility stands in its place as a welcoming destination to hang out in the lounge and sip a cup of hot coffee while reading a newspaper or book or pick up and peruse your mail; faithfully delivered by our modern day Pony Express.
