It is simply amazing what inspired designs can do for a previously underused outdoor space.  For one local couple, this revitalized backyard patio area brings a strong whisper of Colorado right within reach of their Leawood, Kansas address. All they have to do to experience a hint of the Colorado Rockies ambiance is exit the backdoor and take a few relaxing steps into their own outdoor haven.

When owners Andrew and Michelle Stingo moved into this home in September 2017, they were thrilled to have such a beautiful lot with so much potential. With Andrew’s long-time desire to have a fire pit and grill, that served as the impetus to create a special area in which to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. Working in partnership with Brad Harder, Supervisor with Lambie Custom Homes, which also built the main residence, the couple knew they could fully trust the  outcome of the endeavor.

“They do all they can to please, and they did not disappoint with this project,” noted Michelle. “We love to just sit out here most evenings and enjoy the opportunity to spend time with our great neighbors.”

Included in the backyard design is a covered patio area (by Lambie), fire pit, grill, Green Egg cooker, and a fountain with a small pond at the base. Both softscape and hardscape elements, which includes the right amount of stack stone with limestone caps, work effortlessly together to provide a harmonious space.

“You can hear the water in the background, which is very relaxing,” smiled Michelle. “It provides a Colorado-like sound and feel.”

Harder noted the space is perfect for entertaining and cooking.

“The outdoor kitchen is complete with the gas grill, wood fire pizza oven, smoker and bar area,” he indicated.

Harder worked in conjunction with the landscape company to ensure the ambiance of the space reflected a strong Colorado essence.

“We told the landscaper exactly what we wanted in terms of that Colorado feel, and he did just that,” expressed Michelle. “He does wonderful work and is so nice to work with.”

Lambie Custom Homes installed the covered porch and its vendors provided all of the detailed outside work.

“A lot of evergreens were installed to keep it green year-round,” Harder said, also referencing the accent lighting that adds a dramatic, yet soothing layer, echoing elements of the Centennial State. “The inside of the home also has a strong Colorado feeling to it, so this keeps the continuity flowing when you look outside from the great room to the backyard.”

As a result of such a cozy spot in which to relax and enjoy the view, the Stingos have unexpectedly taken up a new hobby: bird watching and communing with nature.

“We have really gotten into all of the nature around us,” noted Michelle, who indicated they are regularly visited by some cardinals, bunnies, ducks, hummingbirds and even a woodpecker.

Of course, the Stingos are never at a loss for company of the human-kind, either. This is the place where so many folks enjoy gathering.

“We have been practicing our pizza-making skills with the fire pit oven,” smiled Michelle. “We haven’t perfect it yet and are still learning.”

Whether you want a slice of Heaven on Earth or just a slice of pizza, you have definitely come to the right place.
