Story by Cheri Woodsmall
Ah, the Holidays are upon us! It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Until it isn’t. Often, we get so busy tending to everyone else’s needs that we forget to take care of ourselves. There is so much going on during the Holiday season! Think about your schedule right now, most likely, that December calendar is already booked. You have to remember to take time out for YOU. We’ve put together 5 wonderful ways to treat yourself this holiday season.
HAVE A SPA DAY
When you get stressed, one of the first places you see it, is on your skin. Dark circles are more prevalent, skin gets dry, and a bit grayer looking. Treat yourself to a Spa Day either at one of Kansas City’s amazing local spas or at home. Either way, you will be amazed at the difference it makes and how much better you feel!
LISTEN TO BEAUTIFUL, UPLIFTING MUSIC
One of my favorite holiday routines is putting on my holiday playlist, pouring myself a glass of wine and wrapping gifts. There’s nothing that gets me in the Christmas spirit more that a little Michael Bublé, Josh Groban and Manheim Steamroller! This year, I’m mixing it up a bit and getting Lindsey Stirling’s new album, “Warmer in The Winter”. So excited!
POUR IT ALL OUT ON PAPER
The written word is my most friendly vehicle for expression – since childhood, writing has been a comfort for me, a kind of self-soothing process and eye-opening channel. I’ve always found a certain joy in looking at a blank piece of paper and bringing forth the words that seem like a good match. When I write, I lose myself and find myself, there in the pages and sometimes in just one word. While you’re writing, include a gratitude list of everything you’re grateful for right now. It’s truly magical.
HAVE A GIRLS DAY
Spending time with your best girls does so many positive things for you. Think about the last time you spent the day together. Most likely, it was filled with LOTS of laughter, great stories and mini celebrations! I’ve had some of my BEST laugh till I cry moments with my girlfriends! Make a day out of it! Go shopping, take a long leisurely lunch (with wine!) and go back to one of their houses and have a wrapping party. I promise you – it will feed your soul.
EAT AND DRINK, WHATEVER YOU WANT, SISTER!
Yes, getting into that fabulous Carmen Marc Valvo lace black sheath dress for that ONE holiday party, is important. But don’t let that deter you from enjoying the amazing food and drinks of the season. Calories do not exist for the next month! Go get yourself that extra piece of pie and have another glass of bubbly! You deserve it!
